First “white” elephant of new Thai king’s reign prepares to join royal stable after the coronation

A “white” elephant in northeast Thailand prepares to be presented to the country’s new King Maha Vajiralongkorn after his coronation on May 4, 2019. Thai law states all specially classified “white” elephants belong to the king. The elephant is the first of its kind to be discovered during Vajiralongkorn’s reign. Vajiralongkorn’s father, the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej, received 10 white elephants during his 70 year reign.
