Pres. Moon promises governmental support for non-memory chip business sector

President Moon Jae-in says his government will boost the system semiconductor industry to promote the sector as the country's future economic growth engine.
During a visit to a Samsung Electronics factory in Hwaseong ,... Moon said his administration will work to promote the sector alongside bio-health and future automobiles.
The president listed key factors of his goal to reach to the status of a comprehensive semiconductor power, including becoming number one in the world in the chip foundry sector and staying in the lead in the memory chip field.
His remarks follow Samsung's release of figures showing a 60-percent drop in its operating profit in the first quarter of this year, due to falls in chip prices and slowing demand for display panels.
