In another event to mark the one-year milestone,... people gathered at the Demilitarized Zone separating the two Koreas,... to hold hands and deliver a message of peace.
Our Seo Bo-bin brings us to the scene.

April 27th is the one year anniversary of the Panmunjeom Declaration, and this year is the 100th anniversary of the establishment of the March First Movement. But the Korean Peninsula has been divided now for seven decades.

Here at the Demilitarized Zone separating the two Koreas, people have come together to bring a message of peace for the Korean Peninsula. This peaceful hand-holding event is hoped to bring peace not only between different individuals, but also between people and nature.

Thousands of people have come from across the nation to take part in the DMZ Peace Human Chain Movement by holding each other's hands and wishing for peace on the Korean Peninsula.

In Imjingak in Paju, Gyeonggi-do Province in the west, and in Goseong, Gangwon-do Province in the east, people hold hands and sing together to the song 'our wish is unification' longing for a unified peninsula some time soon.

"I came here wanting the unification of the two Koreas… Because of the divided nation there are lots of families that are separated and with unification we can share each other's struggles and wish for active exchange between the two Koreas."

Also, over in Goseong, Gangwon-do Province a 'DMZ Peace Road' has opened for the citizens to take a walking tour and experience the current peace and security situation. The route goes from the unification observatory to Mt. Geumgangsan observatory.
