Trump Praises NFL Pick Nick Bosa Who Called Kaepernick A 'Clown'

President Trump's tweet on Saturday raised eyebrows.

President Trump has praised the NFL's number two draft pick Nick Bosa who has, in the past, called former quarterback Colin Kaepernick "a clown."
"Congratulations to Nick Bosa on being picked number two in the NFL Draft," Trump tweeted Saturday. "You will be a great player for years to come, maybe one of the best. Big Talent! San Francisco will embrace you but most importantly, always stay true to yourself. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!"
The president seemed to be offering support after Bosa backtracked from a 2016 tweet where he wrote, "Kaepernick is a clown."
When the 21-year-old was asked about the post after the 49-ers drafted him, Bosa said, in part: "I definitely made some insensitive decisions throughout my life...I'm sorry if I hurt anybody. I definitely didn't intend for that to be the case. But I think me being here is even better for me as a person, because I don't think there's anywhere, any city, that would help you grow as much as this one will."
"I respect what he's done," Bosa also said of Kaepernick. "If it empowers anybody, then he's doing a good thing. I apologize for that."
Kaepernick has been a lightning rod for controversy after he began silently protesting police brutality by kneeling during the national anthem.
Trump criticized him and other NFL players for the protest.
"At least 24 players kneeling this weekend at NFL stadiums that are now having a very hard time filling up," he tweeted in 2017. "The American public is fed up with the disrespect the NFL is paying to our Country, our Flag and our National Anthem. Weak and out of control!"
