Ice climbing and snow craft in the Himalaya
  • 5 years ago
Ice climbing as an adventure sport can be most thrilling. Seen here on a glistening ice face are a group of Indian climbers putting on crampons and mountaineering boots, before clankily going up the ice field, in their ironmongery.

There is not much difference in the techniques that are required for ice climbing and for rock and snow climbing. Ice is also as hard and rough as any surface of a rock and numerous methods of rock climbing can be utilized to challenge any ice barrier.

While taking up ice climbing venture, the adventure seeker can utilize only their 3 limbs as one hand is always occupied by the ice axe. The holds are also not very strong and firm as on rocks. However, holds and anchors are not accessible in ice, which have to be made by the climber themselves with pistons or screws.
