Waythamoorthy: Gov't to propose amendments to Aboriginal Peoples Act 1954

De facto National Unity Minister P Waythamoorthy said that the government will propose for the Aboriginal Peoples Act 1954 (Act 134) to be be amended to empower the Orang Asli community to appoint and sack their headman (tok batin).

He said that this was was among the resolutions made at the 2019 National Orang Asli Convention opened by by Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad on Monday.

Waythamoorthy said the government is looking into reviewing the act and the bill is expected to be tabled in Parliament earliest by end of this year.
