S. Korea to send delegation to U.S. for talks on trying to extend Iranian oil import exemption

In a little over a week, South Korea will no longer be exempt from the U.S. sanctions on oil from Iran.
Seoul had asked for another waiver and didn't get one, but the foreign ministry says it's sending officials to Washington this week for consultations.
The ministry says they'll be looking into the background of the State Department's announcement on Tuesday ending all of the exemptions granted to eight countries.
The South Korean delegation, led by Deputy Foreign Minister for Economic Affairs Yun Kang-hyeon, is expected to ask for an extension of the waiver.
The loss of the waiver is expected to hurt South Korea's petrochemical industry, which relies heavily on imports of Iranian condensate.
