Protest in Myanmar against China-backed Myitsone dam ahead of Aung San Suu Kyi’s Beijing trip

Thousands of people in northern Myanmar have protested against the  China-backed Myitsone project, saying the US3.6 billion mega-dam project will cause major  environmental damage. The march in Waimaw township came days ahead of civilian leader Aung San Suu Kyi’s planned trip to Beijing for a summit on China’s Belt and Road Initiative.
