Sun Sentinel Receives Pulitzer Prize for
Coverage of Parkland Shooting The South Florida newspaper was given
the prestigious award for their impactful work
surrounding the tragic high school shooting of 2018. Pulitzer judges chose the Sun Sentinel for their success
in “exposing failing by school and law enforcement
officials before and after the deadly shooting rampage…” In a statement, the Sun Sentinel staff
expressed both sorrow and honor for the award. South Florida Sun Sentinel, via statement The Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School shooting
claimed the lives of 14 students and 3 adults. In the 10-month period following the incident,
the Sun Sentinel published dozens of articles
addressing the issues surrounding the shooting. They exposed failures by the school
district, law enforcement and social
services that enabled the fatal event. Their coverage prompted significant
changes in school safety, law enforcement
and legislation across the country.
