Way About You

“When someone can captivate you with just a voice and a guitar they’re doing something right.” – Brian Rosenworcel (Guster)

Born and raised in Utica, NY, Darryl is well aware of what it’s like to be the underdog. Born into a family of bakers, he quickly learned the value of a strong work ethic. Since 2013, he has independently released 3 LP’s and 2 EP's, with another slated for a summer 2018 release. His distinct voice and narrative lyricism have earned him spots on the same stage as Guster, Moe, Wild Child, and many more.

Darryl began playing guitar at age 10 after hearing Led Zeppelin's "The Ocean" playing in the garage while his dad fixed up an old VW Beetle. Though originally focused on rock technique and improvisation, his focus quickly shifted to songwriting as he discovered artists like Ben Kweller, Guster, and Ray Lamontagne. By age 15, he would play regular sets of original music at a local coffeehouse to a rapidly expanding local fanbase.

In 2012, he was accepted into Berklee College of Music, where he studied for a year before transferring to SUNY Purchase. It was there he met his drummer and bassist, formed a band, and got his feet wet in the New York City music scene. It didn't take long for his name to make a splash in the area, allowing him to open for larger acts at Mercury Lounge, Rockwood Music Hall, PIANOS, and many more.

Immediately after graduating college at age 20, Darryl packed his life into his Honda Accord and relocated to Nashville completely alone. He spent most nights circulating the city's open mics and booking local showcases, but ultimately felt would better suit him to live in New York City with his band and strong base of connections. Currently based in Brooklyn, Darryl plays monthly showcases at Rockwood Music Hall, and tours the East Coast regularly.

This September he will be hitting the road for two months in support of his upcoming record, Making Strangers.
