Dry weather, strong wind advisory make for increased wildfire potential

We've been bringing you news about wildfires popping up across Korea over the past few days…
Now, with dry weather advisories in place for most parts of the country and typhoon-force winds forecast for tonight,… the authorities are urging the public to be extra cautious, especially in more isolated areas.

Firefighters have contained a forest fire in the southeastern city of Pohang …after 12 hours on the scene.
A day earlier, on Wednesday, a wildfire in the southern port city of Busan was extinguished after destroying 20 hectares of mountain land near Haeundae beach.
Thankfully, no casualties were reported in either of the cases.
At this time of the year, strong winds blow between Yangyang County and Ganseong-eup, Gangwon-do Province on Korea's east coast.
The winds are called "fire wind" in Korea as they tend to fan the flames of wildfires.
With dry weather advisories issued across the country and typhoon-force winds expected late Thursday, …the South Korean government is urging the public to be vigilant and act responsibly in high-risk zones.
During a national agenda meeting on Thursday, Prime Minister Lee Nak-yeon mentioned the recent wildfires and ordered local government agencies to carry out 24-hour inspections.
He added that prevention is the best option and called on the authorities to fully contain wildfires while they are in their early stages.
