REMEMBERING Marvin Pentz Gay Jr. was born on April 2, 1939. He was born in Washington, D.C. The Motown singer released hits like, “How Sweet It Is (To Be Loved By You)” and “I Heard It Through the Grapevine.” The Prince of Soul later released his albums, ‘What’s Going On’ and ‘Let’s Get It On.’ His music helped influence R&B subgeneres like neo soul. Gaye won a Grammy for his single,
“Sexual Healing.” On April 1, 1984, the singer was fatally shot by his father. He passed at
the age of 44. The singer was inducted into the Rhythm and Blues Music Hall of Fame and the Songwriters Hall of Fame posthumously. Happy Birthday, Marvin Gaye!
