Algeria: The final days? Military signals end of Bouteflika era
  • 5 years ago
Despite a month of protests in Algeria, there were no spontaneous cries of victory when the head of the army took to the airwaves to announce it was time for Abdelaziz Bouteflika to go. As the constitutional council decides whether to formally move to replace the ailing president, the ball is clearly in the court of the street. How big will Friday's marches be? In a nation still scarred by the violence of the 1990s and early 2000s, can the country peacefully segue out of the Bouteflika years?
