on the Rise in Colorado Since cannabis was liberalized in Colorado in 2009, emergency room trips triggered by its use have tripled. Inhaled cannabis has
led to more visits overall, while food containing cannabis
extract has accounted for
more visits because of psychiatric
and cardiovascular symptoms. Doctors are unable to quantify
the exact cannabis doses, but
suspect the ingested amounts
are higher than inhaled doses. Researchers have identified
9,973 cannabis-related ER visits
at the UCHealth University of Colorado Hospital between
2012 and 2016. Dr. Andrew Monte, an emergency
physician at the hospital, said the
study was conducted to reaffirm

(THC) is absorbed slower and its effects
aren’t immediately felt. This leads to the use of increased
doses, which can put users in a
