US Teenagers Are Backing Away From Sex, Drugs and Alcohol The CDC has released
new data showing the changes from 1991 to 2017. Figures show that 60.4% of
American high schoolers
tried alcohol in 2017. That's a fall from
81.6% in 1991. Cigarette use also dropped
from 70.1% in 1991 to 39.5%. That's a huge drop from 54.1% in 1991. The data goes on to show that drug use saw the
smallest decrease from 24% to 19.8%. According to Axios, psychologists say technology is a big factor for the shifts. Teenagers are now interacting more through smartphones instead of in person. Studies add that kids are also trying to
cultivate good images on social media and see things like drugs and
alcohol as potentially damaging.
