One-Legged Ice Cream Seller Struggles On

A one-legged ice cream vendor was spotted walking along the road carrying a chest box on one arm and a crutch on the other, while on his way to a nearby village where he will sell his products. Christopher Elariog from Las Pinas City, the Philippines carries five to ten kilos worth of ice cream per day to earn money for his family. "I just keep thinking about my family when I work, I don't think about what other people would say about me," he said. Christopher lives with his wife and three kids and despite his disability, works hard to scrape together enough money to support his family. ''Sometimes one of my kids would come to me and tell about how other children tease them about my legs. I want my children to be proud of me,'' he added. Life-long food seller Christopher lost his leg on 2010 after falling from his bike which he used to carry his ice cream. He ignored the pain and did not visit a doctor until it became a tumour. He said: ''I didn't know what to do back then, I feel like the Lord has left me.'' In 2015, his legs had to be amputated. He went back to working as an ice cream vendor because his children had to go to school. ''My wife helped me, cheered me up when I lost my legs, but most of all I knew that only I can help myself,'' he said. With the help of the people who saw the video and donated, Christopher is being given an artificial leg so he can walk properly.
