Trump Threatens 'SNL'
With Federal Investigation Donald Trump took to Twitter on March 16
to voice his distaste for NBC’s ’Saturday Night Live.’ The episode that prompted his reaction was
a rerun from 2018 that featured a sketch in
which Alec Baldwin portrayed Trump. He complained that the show spends
“all of their time knocking [him], over & over.” Trump suggested that ‘SNL’ was colluding
against him, and threatened to investigate. The “equal time rule” mandates that U.S.
broadcast television give equal air-time opportunities
to opposing political candidates, if requested. However, Trump is no longer a candidate
and ‘SNL’ is a parody show, making it immune
to the type of investigation he suggested. This isn’t the first time Trump has
suggested action against 'SNL.' In December of 2018, he called its “one sided coverage”
a scandal, and in February, he voiced his frustration at
the lack of "retribution" they face.
