National Assembly passes bills aimed at tackling fine dust problem

Fine dust levels have been alarmingly high in the nation over the past few weeks.
In response, lawmakers have been working to tackle the problem.
The National Assembly passed several non-contested bills to help fight the pollution and protect people from the particulate matters.

A total of eight bills related to fine dust pollution were passed during the parliament's plenary session on Wednesday.
Of the measures, the most anticipated one was... a bill which will designate severe fine dust air pollution as a social disaster -- which would allow the government to inject state funds to prevent and cope with fine dust crises.
Another bill passed on Wednesday will ease regulations on LPG vehicles,... allowing regular citizens to buy such cars,... as the current law only allows taxis, buses and rental cars to use LPG.
The regulations on LPG vehicles were relaxed as such vehicles emit less fine dust than diesel or gasoline-powered cars.
Other bills include those that will require the installation of air purifiers and fine dust measuring devices in schools and other public areas such as subway stations.
"The passage of the bills came as rival party floor leaders agreed last week to make the votes on air pollution laws a priority and work together to fight the countries' worsening air quality."
