Inventor of the World Wide Web Says It Needs to 'Changed for the Better' Since the internet began 30 years ago, it has transformed the world in some amazing ways. But its founder, Tim Berners-Lee,
has a few warnings. According to the British engineer, he understands concerns that the internet is no longer a "force for good." He says this is due to the spread of misinformation, hate speech and the gathering of personal data. Berners-Lee says his Web Foundation wants to begin shaping the internet under a set of guidelines. These include people following "civil discourse" and companies making products that center around the "public good." Berners-Lee goes on to say that there is a crossroads between speech and
