Tucker Carlson Defended Statutory Rape in Leaked Recordings

Audio surfaced Sunday of Fox News host Tucker Carlson making misogynistic statements and defending statutory rape. Media Matters for America reviewed Carlson's regular appearances on the Tampa-based radio show “Bubba the Love Sponge” between 2006 to 2011—back when Carlson was supposed to be a bow tie-loving conservative journalist, not yet your standard-issue demagoguing Fox News racist—and uncovered multiple instances of the commentator making excuses for sexual assault and demeaning women, including famous figures from politics and pop culture.

In the tapes, Carlson said that Martha Stewart’s daughter Alexis seemed “extremely cunty,” and that he "wanted to give her the spanking she so desperately needs,” and dubbed Britney Spears and Paris Hilton “the biggest white whores in America.”

“Now the problem with Hillary,” he mused in 2006, “is you look at Hillary and you known in your heart that if she could castrate you, she would.” Bubba agreed, and Carlson continued that Clinton would not get “a single vote from any white male in the country.” Two years later, he similarly described Clinton as being “anti-penis.”

Defense of statutory rape is something of a theme of Carlson’s in the Bubba tapes. (If the name sounds familiar, it might be because the titular Love Sponge's videotape of Hulk Hogan having sex with his then-wife brought down Gawker.com.) Twice he defended Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints cult leader Warren Jeffs, a man who had taken a 12 year old as one of his 78 brides.
