China accuses two detained Canadians of spying
  • 5 years ago
China has accused two Canadians of working together to steal state secrets, as tensions between the two countries escalate over the possible extradition of Huawei's CFO.
Former diplomat Michael Kovrig and businessman Michael Spavor were arrested in China late last year soon after the detention in Canada of Huawei's Meng Wanzhou.
Until now, China had only said the pair were suspected of hurting the country's security.
Meanwhile, Meng is suing Ottowa for what she claims was her unlawful arrest, which was requested by the U.S.
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau told reporters on Monday that he was "very concerned" with what he called China's arbitrary detentions.
