Nation At 9: Did Rohith Vemula die over a tag or a lie?

It’s a fight between two versions now. The man at the centre of the whole University of Hyderabad row in the Rohith Vemula suicide case has come out claiming that he was attacked by at least thirty ASA activists and it was this assault that landed him in a hospital.
His charge comes at a time when Rohith's friends have accused him of lying and faking the surgery. Rohith’s friends have claimed that it is these falsities due to which Rohith was forced to take his life.
So what was it that lead to Rohith's death — depression or something else?
