Chennai Floods: Armed forces continue rescue operations to evacuate people
  • 5 years ago
The city of Chennai has come to standstill. NDRF has rescued more than 7,000 people. But many still marooned. The sun came out in the city yesterday, but the water level has been rising in some areas. Meanwhile the Prime Minister Narendra Modi made an Aerial Survey of Chennai and announced relief of Rs.1000 Crore for Tamil Nadu. Despite all the attempts at rescue, the rescue work has been rendered risky in some areas due to live electricity wires from broken poles that have fallen into the water. The city is facing a huge shortage of food and essential items like milk and water. A one-litre packet of milk is being sold for Rs.100 in some places. A bottle of mineral water costing Rs 20, is being sold for Rs.150.
