Students carry out all night sit in protests at the UGC building

Over a hundred students are protesting outside the offices of the University Grants Commission in the heart of the Capital, enraged by the government's decision to scrap a crucial fellowship. The UGC recently announced that fellowships given to MPhil and PhD students who haven't passed the National Eligibility Tests would be scrapped from the new academic year. But students say the stipends given to pre-doctoral and PhD students is crucial for the thousands of scholars from poor families or lower-caste backgrounds. Slamming the HRD's push to cut funds in Education, the students have launched all-night sit-in protests at the UGC building.
