Following the resignation of Sahitya Akademi Council Member Shashi Deshpande, two more literary icons have returned their awards. Hindi Author Krishna Sobti and Malyalam Novelist Sarah Joseph have returned their Sahitya Akademi awards, while Executive Board member K Satchidanandan resigned from all bodies of the Akademi. The authors have expressed their disappointment over the Akademi's silence on violation of freedom of speech and not openly condemning professor Kalburgi's murder. Two other writers have already returned their awards including Nayantara Sahgal and Ashok Vajpeyi.
