Politics and protests over Maharashtra giving historian Babasaheb Purandare state's highest prize

The Maharashtra government's decision to confer state's highest civilian award on writer Babasaheb Purandare has sparked a major political storm. The decision has not gone down well with some sections of the Maratha community who are protesting the move. In fact they allege that Purandare has distorted the history and image of Chhatrapati Shivaji's image. The NCP and the Congress too are opposed to the move of the government but MNS and Sena have backed the government's proposal.
