Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley Sunday met AIADMK chief J Jayalalithaa at her Poes Garden residence here in the first high profile visit after the former chief minister was let on bail in a disproportionate wealth case.
An AIADMK release said Jayalalithaa received Jaitley “warmly”. “It was a courtesy call which lasted for 40 minutes,” it added.
The meeting comes in the wake of the Centre’s move to drum up support for ordinances, including coal block allocation, in a likely joint parliamentary session of the two Houses.
In the Lok Sabha, the AIADMK is the second largest opposition party after Congress with 37 MPs.
Meanwhile, PMK leader Anbumani Ramadoss, whose party has been critical of the BJP over many issues, met the party’s national president Amit Shah at a function here Sunday. “It was just a courtesy meeting,” Ramadoss told reporters. The two leaders met for a few minutes at the wedding of RSS ideologue S Gurumurthy’s daughter, party sources said.
