#ModiMissionKashmir: BJP’s Mission 44+ in Jammu & Kashmir

The BJP was never in such sharp focus in Kashmir as it has been since June 23, 2014, when it launched its ‘Mission 44+’ in Jammu and declared that it will field its candidates in all the 87 Assembly constituencies and form next Government in the State. The BJP has traditionally been considered a marginal political force having some support in a few Hindu-dominated constituencies in Jammu.

But things completely changed on May 16, when Lok Sabha election results were out and the BJP came out with flying colours across the nation, including Jammu & Kashmir. The BJP not only won 3 out of 6 seats in the State, it also emerged as the single largest party in the State in terms of vote-share.

The BJP secured 32.4 per cent votes and the ruling Congress and the National (NC) and the main opposition People’s Democratic Party (PDP) were way behind it. The BJP won all three seats in Jammu and Ladakh, which constitute almost 88 per cent of the State’s land area, and the PDP won the remaining three in Kashmir Valley and secured a little over 20 per cent of the votes.
