Black Money: Government to hand over full black money list to SC

Black Money Issue: Following a sharp reprimand from the Supreme Court yesterday, the Indian government on Wednesday submitted a list of 627 Indians who had bank accounts in HSBC, Geneva, to the apex court under a sealed cover.

Attorney General Mukul Rohatgi said that the deadline for investigating these accounts under the Income Tax Act is March 31, 2015, which is also the end of the government's financial year. He added that the list had been provided by the French government.

The apex court refused to open the sealed envelope, saying only the chairman and vice chairman of the Special Investigation Team looking into the issue of Indians with black money could do so. It added that the team would decide the future course of action. The SIT, headed by retired judge M B Shah, had been set up by the Modi government shortly after it came to power in May.
