The Election Commission announces polling dates

Election Commission (EC) announces the schedule for upcoming assembly elections in Maharashtra and Haryana.

Here are the live updates:

• It is time for the first test of Prime Minister Narendra Modi after the ‘acche din’ of Lok Sabha elections 2014 as the two states, Maharashtra and Haryana are all set to form their new government.
• While the date of scrutiny for both the states begins from September 20 and ends on 27, the elections/voting date for Maharashtra and Haryana remains the same on October 15.
• After the voting in both Maharashtra and Haryana on October 15, the counting for both the states will happen on October 19 (Sunday).
• On one hand, where Haryana battles for 90 seats, Maharashtra on the other hand is facing the polls of 288 seats.
• Congress is fighting anti-incumbency in both the states.
• With the emergence of Janchetna Party in Haryana headed by former Union Minister Venod Sharma, the elections in the state are certain to witness a new boom.
