Nation at 9: Huge row over 'love jihad' face-off

Aware of the controversy it has generated, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has dropped "love jihad" from its political resolution. Simply put, "love jihad" is not in BJP political resolution. The BJP has dropped the term in its Vrindavan resolution. In the last day of two-day state executive meeting, the BJP kept itself away from the term, which may not have been used on the first day by UP BJP president Laxmikant Bajpai, but "conversion of Hindu girls" and "crimes of rape by people of a particular community" were reportedly the main refrain. The BJP had on Saturday targeted the Samajwadi Party government for protecting a particular community. Soon, the issue created an uproar, with the SP and the Congress slamming the BJP for keeping "love jihad" on the official agenda of the party's state unit meeting. In the political resolution passed at the meeting on Sunday, the BJP expressed concerns over the deteriorating law and order situation in UP, appeasement policy by the state government, and rape cases in the state.
