North sides agree to co-operate to end violence

The Centre, taking a serious view of the unrest in Assam's Golaghat district in the wake of clashes between local adivasis and Nagas in the Disputed Area Belt (DAB) along the Assam-Nagaland border, has asked minister of state for home Kiren Rijiju to reach Guwahati and talk to chief ministers of the two states to defuse the situation.

Rijiju will meet the chief ministers of Assam and Nagaland on Thursday as they attend a DONER meeting in Guwahati. The Centre, which on Wednesday apprised the PMO of the situation and issued advisories to Assam and Nagaland seeking preventive steps to keep law and order under control, is expected to seek pro-active gestures from the two chief ministers to ease tensions.
