Sachin granted leave for ‘personal and professional commitments’

Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman PJ Kurien on Monday granted leave to cricketer-turned-MP Sachin Tendulkar from attending rest of the session despite objections being raised by political parties.

Samajwadi Party MP Naresh Agarwal and Congress' Satyavrat Chaturvedi have raised objections questioning why the legendary cricketer had failed to attend the Parliament.

However, Congress MP Rajiv Shukla came out in support of Tendulkar, arguing, "Normally these letters are put in House following which a decision is taken. These are celebrities and have news value that is why these are being raised.Otherwise there are many people who don’t attend the sessions inspite of being in Delhi."
