Sadanand Gowda: We are working to get bullet trains to India

Railway Minister Sadananda Gowda, presenting the Narendra Modi government's first Rail Budget today, detailed how he plans immediate "course correction" in the financially bleeding Railways, by administering a "bitter pill that will be like nectar in the end."

He announced a slew of passenger-focused measures - including proposing India's first bullet train to run on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad sector. "Through PPP route want to provide foot-over bridges, escalators and lifts across all stations, the minister said, also listing battery operated cars for senior citizens at railway stations, introducing pre-cooked and ready to eat meals from reputed brands and CCTVs to ensure clean stations on his wish list.
