Onus on Modi govt to use fare hike to improve railways

The move by the railways on Friday to increase in passenger fares by 14.2% took regular train travellers in the city by surprise but a large majority said they would be willing to pay more if they are provided better facilities and the railways delivers quality service.
People in the city who travel by train frequently said a blanket hike would affect the poor the most, particularly those who use unreserved coaches on long-distance trips.
