Operations to rescue a 4-year-old girl trapped inside a borewell at Nagathana village near here were stepped up on Wednesday by several teams with no clue about her condition more than a day after she fell into it.

Teams from National Disaster Response Force, fire brigade, police and a robot expert were involved in the operation to rescue Akshata Hanamanth Patil, who fell into the borewell in a farm while she was following her father, a labourer, last evening.

About 10 earth movers were engaged in the operation to drill a parallel tunnel to the borewell to reach her, even as oxygen was being pumped to keep her alive with a team of doctors also at the spot, officials said.
