Telangana to follow TN model on minority quota

Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) leader K Kavitha has said that her party would provide 12% reservation to Muslims in Telangana on the lines of Tamil Nadu even as she asked nearly three lakh Seemandhra government employees to go back to their state.
"We will follow the Tamil Nadu model," she told HT.
The Tamil Nadu government had in 2007 enacted a law granting separate reservation for Muslims and Christians belonging to the backward classes (BCs) in education and employment.
Under the law, the two communities will get a share of 3.5% each in government jobs and seats in educational institutions within the existing 30% reservation for BCs.
Though the Constitution approves only 50% reservations, the Tamil Nadu government extended it to 70% with the provisions of legislature.
On Seemandhra employees, Kavitha, daughter of Telangana chief minister K Chandrasekhara Rao, said: "We cannot allow them to work in our state. Where will our people go?"
The Nizamabad MP also described the Union cabinet's ordinance on Polavaram as "unconstitutional" and demanded it should be withdrawn.
The party has already approached the Supreme Court seeking quashing of the ordinance on the ground that the Union cabinet was not competent to alter the boundaries of a state.
