Responding to a letter written to him by Pakistan's Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said he is looking forward to working closely with him and his government "in an atmosphere free from confrontation and violence."

Thanking the Pakistan PM for his letter, Mr Modi also wrote that he was "particularly delighted and honoured" by his participation in the swearing-in ceremony of his government in New Delhi on May 26.

In the letter, Mr Modi also condemned the recent terror attack at the Karachi airport and thanked the Pakistan PM for the sari that he sent for his mother.
