Maharashtra mulls ban on Hindus radicals
Dhananjay Jayram Desai alias Bhai, founder-president of radical outfit Hindu Rashtra Sena (HRS) — members of which are believed to have murdered a 28- year-old in the city and indulged in a spree of public violence following inflammatory posts found on Facebook on May 31 — was on Monday sent to Yerwada Central Jail for the distribution of pamphlets hurting religious sentiments of minority communities.

Over the past week, Desai (34) — a native of Vile Parle in Mumbai who currently resides at Paud in Mulshi taluka — has been arrested twice. He was first arrested on June 3 by Lashkar police, then released on bail the next day.

Last week, Mohsin Shaikh, a young software professional was killed on his way home from dinner in Pune. 17 members of the Hindu Rashtra Sena, a radical right-wing outfit, have been arrested for his murder. The police linked the brutal killing to the tension over the morphed Facebook pictures of Shivaji and Bal Thackeray. Mohsin was not linked to the uploading of the photos, the police has said.
