Massive search operations launched to trace students

About 25 students from the VNR Vignan Jyothi, Bauchupally in Hyderabad were washed away in Beas River near Kullu in Himachal Pradesh at around 6.30 p.m. on Sunday.

The incident occurred when students were taking pictures at the river bed and they were caught unawares by the gushing waters released from a dam above for power generation, a college official told

Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh has ordered a probe in which at least 24 students, including six girls of an engineering college in Hyderabad and one tour manager, were reported missing after strong currents in the Beas River in Pradesh's Mandi district washed them away Sunday evening.
Five bodies of students were found in Himachal Pradesh's Mandi district while the fate of 19 others is still not known, an official said.
