Vaiko appeals to Modi to uninvited Lankan President

Prime Minister-elect Narendra Modi's invitation to Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa among other South Asian leaders for his swearing in ceremony on Monday has not gone down well with Tamil Nadu politicians.

Vaiko-led Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (MDMK), which is part of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in Tamil Nadu, is against sending an invitation to Rajapaksa.

"I am shocked at the invitation to Rajapaksa, as former prime ministers of India had not invited the Sri Lanka's President for swearing-in ceremony," said Vaiko in a press statement. Meanwhile Sri Lanka has confirmed the participation of its President at Modi's swearing in ceremony.
