Ahead of Modi's arrival in Varanasi, RAF deployed outside BHU
  • 5 years ago
Varanasi has turned into a fortress as it prepares to go to polls in the last phase of the Lok Sabha elections on May 12. 25,000 security personnel - one for every 64 voters - have been deployed to ensure safe elections in the temple town.

"Para military and civil forces have been deployed. We will ensure a free and fair election," said Benaras SP Rahul Raj.

The decision to have this unprecedented security arrangement came after the Bharatiya Janata Party and the Aam Aadmi Party both cried foul, levelling allegations of booth capturing and rigging by the ruling Samajwadi Party. Now, the Election Commission and the local administration are taking no chances.
