Gangster-turned-politician Mukhtar Ansari has been granted 10 days' parole for campaigning in Ghosi, but due to security concerns, he had not been released from Agra jail till Friday night.

Fearing that he may not be released in time to campaign for the polls, the chief of the Quami Ekta Dal has sent his relatives to campaign for him at Ghosi for the May 12 elections. He has been given parole from May 1 to 10.
