Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi has arrived in Tumkur to address an all-women rally on Sunday, a day after he addressed a rally in Belgaum where he attacked the main opposition BJP for rampant corruption and looting the state. The idea originated from Rahul's views about the need to empower women and a realisation that this segment of electorate needed special focus ahead of the General Elections likely in April-May,

More such rallies are likely to be held in states of Maharashtra, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Assam, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh over the coming weeks, the Congress sources claim. Another reason for holding such rallies emanated from the fact that the high attendance of men often made women reluctant to attend the events, especially in rural areas.
