Rajya Sabha elections: Congress and Left parties allege Mamta Banerjee of abduction
  • 5 years ago
Ahead of election to five Rajya Sabha seats in West Bengal Friday, the CPM Thursday accused the ruling Trinamool Congress of trying to poach their MLAs in a desperate bid to ensure the victory of their fourth candidate.
"Three of our MLAs — Sumit Mondal of Forward Bloc, and Ananta Deb Adhikary and Dasharath Tirke, both of RSP — have gone missing since this morning," senior CPM leader Rabin Deb said, while accusing the TMC of trying all tricks —- from offering money to issuing threats using police administration —- to make LF MLAs vote for its candidates in Friday's elections.
"Dubrajpur MLA Bijoy Bagdi, Bandwan MLA Susanta Besra, and Purulia MLA Dhirendra Nath Mahato are victims of such atrocities (by Trinamool)," he said.
The three MLAs have lodged complaints with the Chief Election Commissioner of India, the Central Electoral Observer and to the state Chief Electoral Officer.
