News X: PL Punia slams Janardhan Dwivedi's remark over caste based quota

Indian politics, thanks to Congress primarily, has always had a good share of politics of appeasement, a strategy that has kept Gandhi family in power for more than five decades since 1947. A blend of populist policies, ranging from special treatment of minorities, dolling out reservation to affluent section of the society, have been a bane not only for those who are deprived of such undue privileges, but it hurts nation's development and progress in every sense of the word because meritocracy becomes a scapegoat at the altar of appeasement politics.

Reservation has been in existence longer than most of us have been around in this world. The rationale behind its introduction was to provide opportunities to the underprivileged for their social and economic advancement, and bring them into the mainstream life. The government of the time made it clear that the quota system was only an interim measure, and its relevance will be reviewed after a few years of its implementation.

However, all the successive governments refused to re-evaluate the so-called concept of affirmative action and assess its utility/relevance for the nation. Consequently, each year the quota system is renewed by the parliament. For those who have become victims of this highly controversial practice, no recourse was left.
