The police has swung into action after Maharashtra Navnirman Sena vandalised toll booths in different parts of Maharashtra on Monday.

Earlier, MNS supporters had vandalised toll posts in several cities across Maharashtra on Sunday night and Monday morning after party chief Raj Thackeray asked them to hit anyone who asked them to pay toll tax.

As pressure mounted on the state government to act against MNS workers' goondaism, police acted swiftly and detained MNS MLA Pravin Darekar while two FIRs were lodged at Navghar and Dahisar.

Following a clash of MNS workers and policemen at Dahisar, the MNS workers were arrested.

According to police, FIRs are being registered wherever toll booths are being attacked.

"Do not pay toll tax in Maharashtra. If anyone stops you, without fear hit them then and there," Thackeray had said at a function in Mumbai on Sunday, giving a go-ahead to his supporters to resort to violence to stop toll taxes.

Police said many of the MNS supporters were also arrested for vandalising the booths, IANS reported. Shiv Sena workers were also allegedly involved in the attacks.
