Dissident Trinamool Congress MP Somen Mitra resigned from Lok Sabha on Wednesday, giving effect to his plan to join Congress ahead of the general elections.

"I have submitted my resignation letter to the honourable Lok Sabha Speaker," Mitra told reporters here soon after meeting Speaker Meira Kumar. He represents Diamond Harbour Lok Sabha constituency near Kolkata in West Bengal.
