New Delhi: The Padma awards have always invited controversy and here is more proof that they are seen as political favours by the government of the day.

The list of people who recommended names for the 2013 Padma awards — accessed through RTI — shows that not only have some recommended as many as 25 nominees but they named relatives and colleagues, in sheer disregard to conflict of interest or merit towards the highest civilian honours in the country.
