In another incident of forcefully enforcing patriotic practices, the Meerut mayor Harikant Ahluwalia raked a controversy after coercing the Nagar Nigam board member to sing Vande Mataram.
Following some heated exchanges in board meeting over singing of the national song Vande Mataram, Ahluwalia said that all the Nagar Nigam board members will have to sing the national song, failing which they will not be allowed to participate in the board meetings.
This sudden move by the mayor faced criticism and protest from Muslim Board members.
